Hi everyone! Today I wanted to walk you through a natural makeup look that I love and is my go-to for most occasions! It works well for all seasons, and while I enjoy experimenting with makeup and different looks, this particular look is my absolute favorite. While I play around with different products quite often, I still aim to achieve an effortless, ‘didn’t-try-too-hard’, look when I’m doing my makeup. Something about letting your natural beauty shine through is important, and using makeup is one of those things that I think should be there to highlight the beauty + features you already have, not to hide them. Keep reading along for how I achieve this makeup look + the products I’m currently using and loving!
Step One: Prep Skin
I start off with cleansing my face, and then applying a little moisturizer on my face as well as my lips (just any moisturizer really, I think it helps with the makeup application as it is hard to create any look when your skin is dry and not cooperating).
Step Two: Prime Skin
Just as a canvas needs primer before you start painting, your face needs it too! I apply primer to my lips as well, and this works wonders for keeping your eye makeup in place.
Step Three: Concealer
After my face has been prepped + primed, I move on to God’s gift to humanity: Concealer 😉 Any way to help cover a blemish or make myself look more awake and alive is a plus in my book! I only use a little bit where needed, and make sure to smooth it out so it isn’t cakey after I apply it. After applying the concealer under my eye area (I typically use more concealer under my eyes), I cover it with a layer of setting/finishing powder to ‘bake it‘ for 5 to 10 minutes before dusting it off with a brush. *As much as I love the ‘baking’ technique, if I don’t have time, I just skip it and move on after applying concealer.
Step Four: Foundation
I have come to love a good BB cream or CC cream. They are wonderful for days you don’t feel like wearing foundation but still want coverage. BB cream is a mixture of foundation, moisturizer, and sunblock, while CC cream is a tinted color correcting cream with sunblock. I honestly love them both, so it just depends what I have on hand, but I love mixing a little foundation into whichever tinted cream I choose. I have found this gives me a great medium-type coverage that works well for me.
Step Five: Highlight
I have found a little highlighter goes a long way, and while I absolutely love the glow it gives me, I prefer to put it on underneath my powder, so it isn’t too crazy obvious. Just the right amount of glow shines through this way and I really love it. I apply my highlighter/illuminator to the center of my forehead, on each brow bone + my eyelids, underneath my eyes and on top of my cheekbones, on the bridge of my nose, on my chin, and finish with a dab on my cupids bow… okay fine, I pretty much put it on my entire face, ha! But you don’t notice when you cover it with the powder and it gives you such a glow, I won’t apologize for this! 😉 *tip- apply a bit of highlighter to your collar bones/shoulders when you’re wearing summery outfits- it plays up your tan!
Step Six: Blush + Bronze
After applying my highlighter, I apply blush to the apples of my cheeks and then I apply it to my eyelids like I would an eyeshadow-yes, you read that right, I love using blush as an eyeshadow, the pink shimmer of it gives you a youthful, radiant look that goes beautiful with the all over natural makeup look! Any leftover blush I have on my brush I dust over my neck area. *It’s important to always make sure you blend all of your makeup out from the sides of your face onto your neck- you don’t want obvious makeup lines! After the blush, I take a bronzer and apply it to any areas that the sun would naturally hit my face (I am not huge into contouring, so I just apply a fairly small amount to those areas).
Step Seven: Powder
I cover + blend powder over everything to tie it all together and set what I have done so far.
Step Eight: Eyes + Brows
I use a slightly darker shade of eyeshadow around the blush on my eyelids to add somewhat of a contour to my eyeshadow look. I normally just blend it into the crease of my eyelid to the outer corners. Click here for my go to eyeshadow palette. I then make sure to retouch the highlighter on my brow bones and add a bit to the inner corners of my eyes to open them up. I then put a touch of highlighter in the center of each eyelid over the eyeshadow- it makes your eyes pop! I then apply eyeliner to the top lash line only (if I want a little color on the bottom lash line I use a bronze color from my eyeshadow palette). After eyeliner I curl my lashes and add mascara to both the top and bottom lashes (every once in awhile I will use my favorite false lashes depending on my mood). For my brows I just dab a bit of brown eyeshadow and then brush that through with a little disposable mascara wand. Because my brows are naturally dark I don’t have to do too much to them.
Step Nine: Lips
For my lips I like to apply a liner and a very natural color over that. I will more than likely just use a tinted lip balm and then just cover it with tad of gloss to give it some shine. Nothing fancy!
Step Ten: Set
Lastly, I set my makeup with either a setting spray or a powder (or both if I really mean business!). It is so important to set your makeup so it can stay in place throughout the day!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great Monday!
